I like gen, het, slash, femslash, multi-pairing, poly-ships (poly-v too), etc. You're welcome to interpret my character noms as any, rather than all, though you're free to include all of them in a fic if you want! I'm okay with not including all of the nominated characters. If you want to include non-nominated characters, I'm absolutely okay with that too!
What I Love:
I'm currently really into gothic romance/gothic horror/horror of any stripe really. I also love ambiguous/happy for now/sad endings. I love things that make me think, and are not necessarily tied up with a neat pretty bow. But that's not to say I don't enjoy a happy ending! This is mostly just to reassure you that if it doesn't appear a happily-ever-after is workable, don't worry, go with it!

◊ I'd be very interested in something pre-canon, set shortly after the events at Pine Cottage. In those early days, is Quincy's memory as unreliable as during the course of the novel? Does she become better about suppressing certain memories? Was she ever distrustful of Coop? He was obviously manipulating her for some time; did Quincy ever see signs about Coop she just chose to ignore?
◊ I was never totally convinced Quincy had romantic feelings toward Coop, though he was clearly obsessed with her from the start. How does that sort of imbalance play out over the course of their friendship.

◊ Post-book. Quincy and Jonah start a relationship. Does becoming close to a journalist provide problems for Quincy, who's used to being so secretive?
◊ After the events of the book, Quincy sells her story to Jonah but he feels she isn't telling him the whole truth. Maybe he suspects she's the one responsible for the beating in the park. How does Quincy deal with having the intrepid reporter back on her trail?

◊ A few years after the events of the movie, Amy's murder of Desi Collings unexpectedly comes to light. Would love a social media/epistolary take on this. Amy isn't going to go down without a fight, so does she try to take Nick down with her too? Or does Nick finally try to use the opportunity to get out of the marriage?
◊ Amy channels her murderous impulses into a baking/mommy vlog, and drags Nick into it—to disastrous results.
◊ After the events of the movie, Amy becomes a minor celebrity. And Nick becomes convinced she's taken a lover/lovers. Nick soon starts unraveling, and Amy decides to take drastic measures to protect herself.
◊ Post-movie. What about Amy's thoughts on their relationship and future after the movie. What does Amy expect to happen when she gives birth? Does she have other ways of keeping Nick in line? What happens when things don't go according to her plans?
◊ Post-movie. A few years down the line, Amy decides she's tired of Nick and their child. She can't divorce Nick because, as sole breadwinner, she would have to give him child support. So she starts plotting his murder. Does she succeed? Or is she foiled? I'd really love something noirish, with a little dark humor. (Nick and Amy's kid can be endangered but I'd prefer no real harm actually come to them.)
◊ Amy and Nick celebrate their first Christmas as parents.
◊ Pre-movie. 5 moments Amy and Nick were wrong for each other and one moment they were just perfect. (Would love something that hints at the darkness within each.)
◊ Post-movie. Amy and Nick's child disappears and Nick immediately suspects Amy is behind it. But Amy insists she had nothing to do with it. Is she telling the truth? I'd actually love if Amy was orchestrating things behind the scenes but I'm not too picky about it. She doesn't have to be involved. Nick just has to think she is. If Amy isn't involved, who is behind it? Someone who knows the truth about Amy? Or is it someone else? (Nick and Amy's kid can be endangered but I'd prefer no real harm actually come to them.)
◊ Pre-movie. How Amy and Nick's wedding night really went.

◊ What happens to Nick and Go's relationship after the movie ends?
◊ Post-movie. Go has a strained relationship with Nick and Amy after the events of the movie. When Amy gives birth, Nick starts shutting her out of their lives...but why? Go investigates!
◊ Urban Fantasy AU. Nick and Go are twins with psychic abilities. Then people start dying around them. Are they responsible?
◊ Fairytale AU. Nick and Go are left in the care of a hungry witch by their neglectful father. Are they able to outsmart the witch and escape? Or are they trapped with her? (Is Amy the witch? 👀)

I had to read this book for a Brit. Lit. class and loved it. I was especially fascinated by its portrayal of Marian Halcombe. Marian's described as unattractive and yet irresistible to those around her; she remains the most popular and enduring character of the book and perhaps Collins' career. (Collins got letters from male admirers who thought she was based on a real person, asking for Marian's hand in marriage!) The book is an early example of detective fiction (that Collins is often credited with inventing) and deals with spying, surveillance, and other mystery tropes, as well as gothic fiction tropes. It's kind of a crossover/bridge between the gothic fiction of earlier generations and the sensation fiction of authors like Mary Braddon, Ellen Wood, Charles Dickens, and Collins.
I'd love something that further explores the novel's themes of sexuality, gender, and equality. Or poly (poly-v) with Marian, Walter, and Laura together and raising Laura and Walter's child?
Pastiche/epistolary format here would be *kisses fingers like Italian chef*

◊ As stated above, Marian/Walter/Laura is my OT3 and I'm convinced Walter is into both sisters. Give me something where the three of them live happily ever after, with Marian still doing her own thing at the same time.
◊ Walter and Laura welcome Marian into their relationship. It's unconventional, but it works because it's them.
◊ When a pregnant Laura becomes bedridden for the later stages of her pregnancy, she and Walter welcome Marian into their relationship. Laura directs the action while Marian and Walter have sex.
◊ Give me a scene of their domestic life together! I'll even take a threesome (I prefer incest not to be the focus. I'm much more interested in a poly-v with Walter involved with the sisters).
◊ You could even twist things up with an AU scenario. Transpose the three of them to a noir detective scenario or the plot of a gothic horror novel/movie!
◊ Space AU! Marian, Walter, and Laura in space! Maybe Laura's held prisoner in an abandoned space prison rather than an asylum. Maybe Walter goes adventuring on a distant planet, rather than South America. Have fun with it!
◊ What about a Christmastime ghost story featuring our favorite amateur detectives! (Can be supernatural, or there can be a "realistic" explanation for the ghost/mystery.)

◊ Walter gives Marian private art lessons that lead to a passionate encounter.
◊ Marian and Walter share one night together while they work on a plan to save Laura.
◊ Marian models for one of Walter's paintings and one thing leads to another.
◊ Deleted entries from Marian's diaries reveal an affair with Walter.
◊ Walter has the obligatory "oh no she's 'hot'!" moment before Marian goes off to Count Fosco. (I'd prefer Marian not actually be ~attractive~. Marian's still ~unattractive~, but Walter is also still into her.)
◊ Maybe there are some "deleted" scenes between Marian and Walter that didn't make it into the finished novel. (Considering parts of it are Marian's diary/letters, maybe she removed those passages, perhaps to protect Laura's feelings? Or to obfuscate the truth?)

I had to read this book for a Brit. Lit. class and loved it. I was especially fascinated by its portrayal of Marian Halcombe. Marian's described as unattractive and yet irresistible to those around her; she remains the most popular and enduring character of the book and perhaps Collins' career. (Collins got letters from male admirers who thought she was based on a real person, asking for Marian's hand in marriage!) The book is an early example of detective fiction (that Collins is often credited with inventing) and deals with spying, surveillance, and other mystery tropes, as well as gothic fiction tropes. It's kind of a crossover/bridge between the gothic fiction of earlier generations and the sensation fiction of authors like Mary Braddon, Ellen Wood, Charles Dickens, and Collins.
I'd love something that further explores the novel's themes of sexuality, gender, and equality. Or poly (poly-v) with Marian, Walter, and Laura together and raising Laura and Walter's child?
Pastiche/epistolary format here would be *kisses fingers like Italian chef*
